Urban Cycles Oy Equal E-Bike

Urban Cycles Oy “Equal E-Bike” is Stylish, Elegant and Truly Efficient

Urban Cycles Oy, a Helsinki-based startup, launched its all-new Equal electric bike, featuring a clean design, a 250-W electric motor, and a 30-mile range.

The Equal e-bike was explicitly designed for European streets, looks very clean, features a rear-mounted 250W motor, has a removable lockable in-frame battery, and weighs only 15 kg.

According to Andriy Sytnyk, Urban Cycles Oy’s founder and CEO, many brands try to produce premium electric bikes. On the other hand, many companies manufacture cheap electric bicycles, which are nothing but rebranded ODM bikes. There is a high-level saturation in both segments, and there is a considerable gap separating them. Equal wants to provide the common public with a bike that looks good, has great capabilities, and a reasonable price tag.

This bike comes with a chain drive as a standard feature. However, customers can upgrade to a Gates CDX Carbon Drive Belt setup for an extra £250. You also get a 250 watts motor with a torque sensor, providing an adaptive pedal assist up to 15.5 mph (25 km/h). The speed limit ensures that the Equal is still legal in Europe.

Furthermore, Urban Cycles Oy promises a range of 30 miles (50 km) with the included Li-ion battery. However, the range depends on the type of terrain and the riding style.

The Equal e-bike doesn’t feature a handlebar display to maintain a minimalistic look. Instead, you can use your smartphones to get information like current speed, distance, and charge percentage left. You can power this bike on/off using a button resting on the top tube. The button would also fire the front and rear lights and can show you the charge percentage.

But the most Equal ebike most notable feature is really the removable battery that can be easily charged at home by plugging it into a docking station. Simply pull up the seat, lift the rear light and pull the battery out. It’s that simple!

Currently, the Equal costs €1,490 or roughly $1,785 in Europe. However, shipping is limited to EU countries, Norway, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. Urban Cycles Oy plans to start production in mid-2021, but interested customers can already book the Equal e-bike today with a refundable deposit of €100.
