The all-new electric trailer Ein from Biomega is claimed to render a weightless cruising experience, thanks to a built-in battery and electric motor.
Have you wondered if there’s a bicycle trailer that doesn’t need much legwork or seems too heavy to slow you down? Yes, that is now a possibility, thanks to the new electric Ein trailer from Biomega, a Danish e-bike company that has mastered the art of bicycle design over the lasts 25 years.
“Ein” in German means one. It is a one-of-a-kind innovation featuring a monocoque shell made of polypropylene molded into a sleek Scandinavian design. There is a single rear wheel carrying the 250-watt hub motor, which is powered by a lithium-ion battery attached to the trailer body. The battery can be removed while recharging. A universal latching system connects it to your bicycle just below the saddle post via an aluminum arm attached to the tub.
Once you start cycling, the intelligent motor in Ein’s wheel detects a spinning motion and instantly kicks in. The trailer is now pushing itself, and you are no longer dragging it, a phenomenon Biomega labels as a “weightless” cruising event. When you slow down, the motor will recognize the alteration in the speed and cut power proportionally. This lets you glide past heavy traffic without slowing down. Plus, considering the slim design of Ein, you could even get through the bicycle lane on your standard three-wheel cargo bike.
A perfect fit for your urban lifestyle, you can use the Biomega Ein for cargo shipments or carry two small children. For carrying cargo, there’s a rainproof plastic lid, and for the latter, there are detachable third-party standard seats. However, Biomega hasn’t yet specified the maximum payload of Ein, and neither has there been any word on the weight of the trailer itself. Reports claim that for a 5-hour charge, Ein can give a battery range around 53 to 93 miles (85 to 150 km).
As far as safety standards are concerned, two regulatory reflector badges and bands on the sides power up visibility in all directions.
However, the conversion of the Ein into the retail phase is subject to a successful turn out of the crowdfunding campaign of Biomega to reach $29.917 for the electric trailer. Should you be interested, you can get one for a pledge of €745 ($890).
