Trek’s all-new E-Caliber lineup features the world’s lightest electric mountain bike at 34.2 lb, capable of 43.5-miles on a single charge.
Trek has just unveiled its 2021 electric mountain bike lineup, the E-Caliber. Following the lightweight trend in E-bikes, the company has made them as light as possible. According to Trek, the E-Caliber is the lightest full-suspension electric mountain bike.
This e-MTB’s design draws inspiration from the Supercaliber, a non-electric cross country racing bike. Moreover, the lineup features five different variants, with the top version being the lightest at 34.2 lb. Trek has used lightweight materials like carbon fiber in the bikes to make them as light as possible. Like the Supercaliber, the E-Caliber also features the IsoStrut suspension design, providing the right amount of damping and comfort without the weight of a traditional full suspension.
Meanwhile, each E-Caliber is equipped with the well-known Fazua electric drive system producing 40 lb-ft of torque. The electric motor draws power from a 250Wh battery, which sits with the motor in a drive pack. Although significantly less potent than batteries in other eMTBs, it plays a significant role in keeping the bike lightweight while still having a somewhat excellent 43.5 miles of battery range.
Thanks to the Fazua drive system, the rider can remove the battery and the motor. If riders want to enjoy the standard mountain bike pedaling experience, they can remove the drive pack and replace it with a hollow down tube plug. By doing so, the bike’s total weight comes down by 6 lb. Moreover, the down tube can also be used for storage purposes. On the other hand, for a better overall experience during a climb and long rides, the rider can use the drive system’s power assistance.
The E-Caliber’s base model is available at a reasonable price of $6,499 with only one color option. However, the lightest and most expensive model, the 9.9 XX1 AXS, starts at $12,999, with four color options.
