After years of anticipation and hard work, upstart Italian company Kobra has debuted the Smart and Climber electric scooters.
Electric scooters with smaller wheels are widely available, but they lack stability and maneuverability. However, the Italian start-up tackled this growing concern by opting for a larger radius, making the scooter fit for uneven terrains.
“Our Kobra was born from the need to face the city jungle in a safe and agile way,” says the company.
Kobra is debuting in the E-scooter market with two models. One is named Kobra Smart, and the other is Climber. The main difference between the scooters is the tires. Namely, the Smart has slick tires for better grip in urban conditions, while the Climber has tires with a deeper tread for driving on dirt. However, both feature 20-inch front and 16-inch rear wheels.
Meanwhile, the Kobra Smart features a 350 W light electric motor, whereas the Climber has a stronger 500 W wheel hub drive. In both models, the lithium battery sits on the frame.
With a fully-charged battery, Kobra promises 100 km (62 miles) of range. Both e-scooters have a top speed of 25 km/h (16 mph), despite the power differences. However, the Climber can use the additional power to climb 35% slopes, while the Smart maxes out at 22%.
Furthermore, Kobra’s steel framing and braking tech draw inspiration from motorcycles. The brakes in both models are identical and feature a double-disc braking system.
In addition, the tubular structure adds structural toughness, while the SAE 304 stainless steel ensures flexibility in extreme conditions.
The Kobra Smart and Climber scooters have some other features that set them apart. Notably, there is an E-ABS system onboard, along with cruise control, which can recharge the battery when going downhill.
The Kobra Smart starts at €2,170 (≈$2,630) on Indiegogo, while the Climber goes for €2,480 (≈$3000).
