Ford Issues 3 Safety Recalls | Faulty Power Seats, Missing Heat Shields and Air Bag Problems

2016-20 MKX & Nautilus — Power Seats

The first recall is for the 2016-20 Lincoln MKX and Nautilus vehicles manufactured at the Oakville Assembly plant during the time frame of November 11, 2014, to January 24, 2020. The recall issued is in regards to the 16-way power seats where there is the insufficient spacing between the driver and the front passenger seat wire harness and seat cushion. This may lead to wear and tear of the wiring harness and create issues in the deployment of airbags under emergency circumstances, increasing the risk of injuries. As of now, there are no injuries reported to Ford. The official number of vehicles affected by the action has been released by Ford. “This action affects 19,299 vehicles in the U.S. and federal territories, 4,262 in Canada and 1,023 in Mexico.” Dealers will replace or repair the affected parts i.e. 16-way seat cushion frames and wire harness based on the results of the inspection of these vehicles.

Dealers will fix the flocking tape on the uncovered boundary of the seat cushion frames, clean the defective bolts on the affected cars or trucks, examine the wire harness, and mend or replace it as needed.

The reference number for this recall is 20S37.

2021 F-650 and F-750 — Heat Shield

The second recall is for the 2021 Ford F-650 and F-750 vehicles with the 7.3-liter engine. The affected vehicles were built at the Ohio Assembly plant from March 18 to June 18, 2020. Due to the absence of certain thermal protection component which serves the purpose of reducing temperatures of interior floor cabinet and seat attachments. “These missing components may include an underbody heat shield, a thermal insulator patch under the floor mat, or covers for the seat bolts and seat pedestal.”

The absence of these thermal components may lead to a rise in temperature of the vehicle’s floor and seat attachments in “high-load, high ambient temperature driving conditions.” Constant contact with these surfaces might lead to minor burns on the skin of the passengers. “Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition. This action affects 1,299 vehicles in the U.S. and 31 in Canada,” says the official Ford news. The dealers will install the underbody heat shield, thermal insulator patch under the floor mat, seat base covers, and seat bolt covers.

2020 Escape & Transit — Airbags

The third recall is for the 2020 Ford Escape built at Louisville Assembly on March 18, 2020, and 2020 Ford Transit vehicles built and assembled at Kansas City Plant from February 18 to March 19, 2020. The recall issued is regarding the increased risk of injuries due to improper inflation of curtain airbags during deployment. There has been no report of injuries for this recall as well. In the US, 68 vehicles and 12 vehicles are affected by this recall. “Dealers will replace the curtain airbag modules.”

The dealer will replace the curtain airbag modules free of cost.
