Nissan Revives Production of its Skyline GT-R RB26 Engine

“It just keeps calling for more”- Paul Walker.

Well, we all have loved the Skyline, and even more so after its iconic appearance in the movie 2 Fast 2 Furious. It’s just one of those automobiles defining the Beauty and the Beast all in one. With its streamlined body, smooth cut, analog system, bewitching steering control, technology, and race performance, no wonder why it earned the title “Godzilla” and became Nissan’s flagship vehicle for decades after it stopped being produced.

Since its early appearance, highly versatile body, a Japanese core, and a statement setter in any drag race, the Skyline GT-R has faced high customization such that it’s now become tough to find a completely stock Skyline RB26 anymore. Real car enthusiasts realizing the need to preserve the pure breed has been leaning a comprehensive inventory of the vehicle moreover. However, this entitles the owner to go through a lot of trouble finding the right parts costing him/her time and money.

1984 marked the birth of Nismo, an utterly new division by Nissan. And since 2017, the division has realized the consumer needs and introduced the Heritage program and catalog, which offers genuine parts for iconic Nissan cars like the Skyline. Although not the complete package, the heritage parts do provide some highly sought after components, getting their factory to produce new components instead of only refurbished ones, which doesn’t burn a hole in your pockets as compared to sourcing the parts from elsewhere.

And now they’ve done it again. Nissan is all set towards producing the now world-renown RB26 turbocharged inline-6 engine of the famous Skyline GT-R. Hold your horses though. Nismo won’t be offering the whole complete engine just yet. But what you get are new castings with which potential buyers can use to start building their engine from the ground up.

The cast head will cost you about 1,698$, and a new block will be sold at 1,535$, adding up for a total cost of 3,233$. If you want to tune up and add more revs to the heart, the Nissan RB26DETT N1 block is available for 3,833$. The N1 signifies a higher nickel mix, improved water channels, thicker cylinder walls, and deck surface that can take up the heat and potentially offer more power.

If you still want to go after these products in the 2nd hand market, it would cost you about 4,500$ to 4,800$ with no guarantee. Swapping the engine and transmission for a brand new piece or a different one is always an option. It’s safe to say that it just won’t be the same.

Since the Nissan factory is set and produced in Japan, getting your hands on these components in countries like the USA might be problematic, but luckily, “Nissan direct”, the manufacturer’s online store will deliver your order straight to your doorstep.

Get yours today and let the Furious in you shine again!
