Ford F-150 Lightning PRO SSV is a Police Truck You Can’t Escape

The Ford F-150 Lightning PRO SSV can hit 60 mph in less than four seconds, making it one of the quickest police vehicles, period!

Ford has built quite a reputation for producing police vehicles over the years, with 12,000 departments trusting the company for their automotive needs. As a result, Ford’s police vehicle lineup easily outsells all its competitors. This time, Ford launched America’s first electric police truck, the F-150 Lightning PRO SSV, aimed at cost reduction and efficient police work.

The Special Services Vehicle (SSV) electric truck is tailored for law enforcement agencies. Hence, it includes specific features to aid police operations, such as police-grade heavy-duty cloth seats with reduced bolsters, roof-mounted LED warning beacons, and inbuilt steel intrusion plates in the front seatbacks.

Inspired by the F-150 Police Responder, the SSV also features easily cleanable vinyl rear seats and flooring along with an upfit-friendly reinforced instrument panel. Meanwhile, standard interior features include a central 12-inch digital cluster screen and a 12-inch landscape-style touchscreen. Moreover, driver aid systems such as Automatic Emergency Braking and Blindspot Information System are supported by Ford Co-Pilot360 technology.

Last but not least, the “Mega Power Frunk” works as a 14.1-cu-ft additional storage component for police apparatus and offers a 220-amp DC-DC converter to act as a temporary power outlet.

Now to the main point, how does the truck fare in terms of performance and range?! In standard battery configuration, the F-150 Lightning PRO SSV produces 452 HP (337 kW) and 775 lb-ft (1,050 Nm) of torque. It can also tow up to 7,700 lb (3,490 kg) and comes with a 2,235 lb (1,013 kg) payload capacity.

If this isn’t enough to catch or restrain troublesome criminals consider, police departments can opt for the extended battery option. In the upgraded version, HP grows to 580, and the towing capacity grows to 10,000 lbs. Like the regular F-150 Lightning, the PRO SSV can hit 60 mph in less than four seconds, making any escape highly unlikely!

Although Ford didn’t disclose the range, we expect similar numbers to the regular model, i.e., 230 miles for the standard battery pack and 320 miles for the extended.

To increase its sales and reach the remotest of locations, Ford has extended options of “FinSimple” financing with multiple loan options for municipalities to assist in installing charging stations. Further details, including pricing and range, will be disclosed this summer, so stay tuned!
