The Ford Maverick Tremor is a rugged, compact truck with an off-road-focused AWD system and a useful Trail Control feature.
The Maverick compact pickup truck was well received during its release, thanks to its solid on-road dynamics, usable bed size, and low price. But now Ford is amping things up with the Tremor off-road package, another addition to the rugged collection that boasts the Ranger, F-150, and Super Duty.
Available in the expensive XLT and Lariat trims, the new package features many tweaks — an upgraded exterior, a new all-wheel drive system, and a beefed-up suspension. The hybrid XL trim will not be a part of this off-road package because the new Tremor will be an “entry-level option for buyers seeking greater off-road capability,” as per Ford’s statement.
Speaking of the visual upgrades, the Tremor has got its trademark orange accents splashed all over the front hooks, grille, and wheels. Moreover, it features a blacked-out Ford logo plate and tinted headlights. Meanwhile, the all-terrain tires and 17-inch alloy wheels get an anodized finish that looks sturdier.
However, one of the standout specials of the new Tremor package is its Trail Control feature — Ford’s cruise control for off-roading. Available only in this package, the feature enables the driver to opt for a set pace with automatic throttle and braking control. The add-on will be of great help for drivers while navigating through tricky off-road tracks.
Furthermore, the Maverick Tremor gets a 1-inch ride height lift, with upgraded front and rear springs and shocks for better off-road drivability. The trim also has an all-wheel-drive system that sports a rear-drive locking differential. The driver can choose between five different modes based on the terrain or if they use the truck for towing.
The Maverick Tremor features a 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged inline-four producing 250 hp and 277 lb-ft torque, which needs 7 seconds to reach 60 mph. Meanwhile, the heavy-duty transmission that comes with the turbocharged engine has a built-in cooler for increased durability on challenging terrains.
The base prices of the Maverick XLT and Lariat models are $24,835 and $28,335, respectively, while the Tremor package costs $2,995; opt for the Tremor Appearance package, and it will add another $1,495 to the bill.
