The 75-year celebration marked the production of Vespa’s 19-millionth scooter, and we can’t wait to get our hands on this special edition that feels oh-so-1940s-ish!
On April 23rd, 2021, the Italian two-wheeler manufacturer Vespa celebrated its 75th anniversary. To revel in one of its biggest moments in history, it cut the birthday cake with yet another milestone—the production of the 19 millionth motorcycle, the 75th Anniversary Special Edition of GTS 300. Now that’s what we call a birthday bash for an iconic brand!
Well, that is quite a journey for the Italian marquee. Piaggio had rolled out the first Vespa scooter in 1946 out of its Pontedera plant in Tuscany, Italy. From finding its market for an inexpensive transport mode after World War II to becoming an icon of fun and fashion and now the 19millionth milestone – it sure is a proud moment for Vespa.
The brand has an ever-increasing customer base across 83 countries on all continents, with scoots coming out of its three factories. Europe, the USA, and other western countries get the scooters from the original Pontedera. Meanwhile, East and Southeast Asia are served by the Vinh Phuc plant in Vietnam, and for the market in India and Nepal, manufacturing occurs in the Baramati factory in India.
For the anniversary special edition, Vespa takes you back to the 1940s with its elegant metallic Giallo 75th bodywork – a vintage yellow gold paint with a chrome-plated luggage rack. And for finer touches, it even features a perky silk scarf to give you the “made in Italy” feel. The mudguard and the side panels flatteringly display the number 75.
It is your dreamy European old-school charm meeting the perks of modern engineering with a suaveness that comes from a heritage of serving the world. This sweet-sweet blend has caught the eyes of millions of dreamers across generations.
Sure, you can even have your own Audrey Hepburn moment fleeting around the narrow cobblestoned streets in Italy from “Roman Holiday” or be Matt Damon’s Tom Ripley from “The Talented Mr. Ripley”!
So, what does Vespa have in store for its fans in North America for its 75th anniversary? Well, both the States and Canada will see the 75th Anniversary Editions of Vespa Primavera S 50cc and Primavera S 150cc.
Additionally, the 75th Anniversary Edition of the four-valve four-stroke Vespa GTS Super Tech 300, priced at $7949, will be available in the US market next month (Sorry, Canadian fans, we hear you!).
