Piaggio One is the Famous Brand’s First e-Scooter

Italian two-wheeler powerhouse Piaggio released details of its latest addition, the One e-Scooter.

Initially introduced at the Beijing Motor Show last May, the One will be Piaggio’s first electric offering for the global market. Piaggio’s lifestyle-oriented sister brand Vespa already has the Elettrica announced and the One would be joining its lineup soon.

Looks-wise, Piaggio hasn’t strayed far from the recognizable moped design from the company’s conventional fuel-powered step-through like Zip models are still visible. Offered in a range of monotone and dual-tone color options the Piaggio One is familiar yet new and will be available in three trims; the One, the One+, and the One Active.

Power is delivered courtesy of the rear hub-mounted motors. On the One and One+, you get the same 1.2 kW motor producing a claimed 62.6 lb-ft of torque. The One gets a 1.8 kWh battery pack that can provide 34 miles of range and a top speed of 27 mph. The One+ gets a bump in capacity to 2.3 kWh, for a better 62-mile range as well as a top speed of 34 mph. Lastly, the performance-oriented One Active gets an upgraded 2kW motor that can propel it to 37.2 mph on the same battery pack as the One+, giving it 53 miles of range. The battery packs on all three trims are removable and can be charged in 6 hours.

LED lights take care of seeing and being seen, while a fully interactive digital instrument cluster is installed upfront, offering smartphone connectivity like on the Vespa Elettrica. Other features include keyless start system, USB charging, regenerative braking and two ride modes. Moreover, the low seat and spacious footwell promise comfortable rides while the underseat compartment provides ample storage space.

On the Chinese market, the Piaggio One starts at 17,800 yuan, or the equivalent of $2,782, while the company is yet to announce it for other markets.
