According to CarsDirect, the all-electric Mustang Mach-E has a higher residual value than the regular gas-powered Mustang.
Leasing high-end cars can be easier today, but the major deciding factor is still residual value. As for the Ford Mustang, the first-quarter lease residual guide indicates that the Mach-E variant will have a higher residual value than its gas-powered sibling.
Though the residual value differs for different trim levels, the 2021 Mach-E’s keeps 56% of the value after 36 months. Meanwhile, the regular Mustang keeps 48% and 53% for the V8 GT and Mach-1. Still according to CarsDirect, the California Route 1 Extended Range (RWD), Premium Extended Range (RWD and AWD), and First Edition Extended Range (AWD) have the highest residual value of the range at 58%.
The residual value is the car’s estimated worth at the end of the lease or the price at which you can buy it after the leasing period. With the EV sales gaining momentum recently, the question of electric cars’ resale value remains a concern, largely due to battery life expectancy. To counteract the situation, automakers focus on offering more cost-effective, efficient, and durable battery cells. Failing to provide effective battery technology will lead to faster depreciation of cost and product life.
That being said, the cheapest way to get your hands on one is through Ford Options Plan, involving balloon financing. With that option, Mustang consumers get to pay affordable monthly payments and then a one-time balloon payment. Balloon financing usually comes with refinancing options to tackle the payment. However, it’s important to mention that the federal tax credit of $7500 doesn’t pass along when leasing a Mach-E. Still, Ford’s plan offers attractive opportunities and possible rebates allowing customers to afford a Mustang Mach-E without a 100% upfront payment.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E arrived on the market by late 2020 as a 2021 model and was an instant success. Nonetheless, only time will tell if Ford financing options and a better residual value will make it a wise purchase in the long-term.
