Rich Rebuilds’ Crazy V8 Tesla Model S Gets a Six-Speed Manual

Rich Rebuilds pushes its petrol-powered Tesla project one big notch further!

Rich Rebuilds is an automotive YouTube channel with many projects using Tesla vehicles under its belt. The most recent one sees the team fit a V8 engine into a rundown Tesla Model S, which is both intriguing and unnecessary at the same time.

The Model S that Rich uses was initially headed for the junkyard. Still, the team had other plans: completely replace the stock Model S’ electric drivetrain with a fifth-generation Chevy Camaro SS powerplant. The Camaro engine is a 6.2-liter V8 pumping out 437 HP, meaning that this gas-guzzling Tesla will still be a fast car, even with the added weight. Although the build is kinda opposite to the original manufacturer’s, the engineering behind this build grabbed petrolheads’ attention for sure!

The Rich Rebuilds‘ latest video shows the team planning to build a transmission tunnel to accommodate the new 6-speed transmission and installing custom CV axles to send all that power to the wheels. The car’s floor had to be cut to facilitate the parts, and a clutch pedal was added in the process. The gear lever has been installed in its usual place, and the Model S V8 is starting to take shape.

The whole process has gained both positive and negative attention, with Tesla understandably not happy with the project. Since it defeats the primary purpose of electric vehicles, EV enthusiasts are also apprehensive about the idea, but the internet cannot wait to see the final product and how a muscle car engine will perform in a Tesla Model S body.
