Pristine! This is how the McLaren Formula 1 team’s latest livery will appear at the Monaco Grand Prix.
McLaren had been teasing a major reveal for quite some time, and it has not disappointed. Namely, for the Monaco Grand Prix, the Woking team will don the Gulf colors to honor the long-standing partnership with the company.
The McLaren of Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris will be painted in the team’s trademark orange and Gulf sky blue, a nod to the alliance’s past achievements. However, the paint finish will only be valid for the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend, after which it will revert to the original.
McLaren won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1997 while wearing these colors on the McLaren F1 GTR Longtail, which Gulf sponsored. Both firms have been working together since the late 1960s and have not parted ways until now.
McLaren now honors the iconic partnership by dedicating the F1 racer’s decoration to a Grand Prix. The Monte Carlo race is not only the most famous of the season but also the most-watched globally. Besides, there is a strong desire among fans for the race to return to Monaco as it was called off last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Norris and Ricciardo will also be dressed in sky blue suits. Moreover, the elegant theme will feature on the team kit and across all team social media platforms. In addition, the race helmets contain bespoke retro designs that have been specially fabricated for the three-day showdown.
“This will be McLaren’s homage to Gulf’s celebrated racecar design,” said Zak Brown, McLaren Racing’s CEO. “We’re enormous fans of brave and bold design, and the striking Gulf blue is among the most loved liveries in racing, a celebrated piece of culture which transcends the world of motorsport,” he finished.
McLaren is currently in third place in the constructors’ world championship, battling Ferrari for the podium. Norris has already finished on the podium this year, and if the conditions are favorable in Monaco, he might do wonders again. This new decor would be beneficial as well.
