2024 Hyundai Kona Arrives With Sharp Looks, ICE, Hybrid, and EV Power

The all-new 2024 Hyundai Kona has a powertrain for every buyer, including electric, hybrid, ICE, and a sporty N Line model.

The Kona has been a great hit for Hyundai globally since its debut in 2018. But looking at the second-gen model, we can expect even greater things from it. The 2024 Kona is bigger, but crucially, looks so much better than before. It borrows the design from the sci-fi Staria van and even upgrades it.

Hyundai’s designers seem to do an outstanding job recently, and the Kona looks like the crowning achievement. The front and rear LED slits give it a futuristic appearance, while the side profiling perfectly connects both ends of the crossover, using clever, two-tone surfaces. However, you can delete the black cladding on the EV and N Line, and the 2024 Kona will look even sleeker and more modernistic.

All four trims of the 2024 Kona have very similar features. The main differentiating factor among the trims is the front lower fascia; the EV goes for a “Pixelated Seamless Horizon Lamp” that resembles the Ioniq 5, while the standard ICE trim has an opening at the same place.

As for the N Line, Hyundai opts for a bold stance by including a trapezoidal feature in the front. All models have headlights hidden in the sides, adding to the modernistic and minimalistic design. Overall, in my eyes, the 2024 Kona looks better than its competition, which includes the Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-30.

Compared to the existing model, the 2024 Kona is 5.9 inches (150 mm) longer and 1 inch (25 mm) wider and has a 2.36-inch (60 mm) longer wheelbase.

But there is more to the 2024 Kona than just the looks. Notably, Hyundai’s latest sub-compact crossover will be the only model in its category available as an ICE, hybrid, and EV model. Moreover, the company will continue offering an N Line variant, though it’s unclear whether it will pack the same 2.0-liter turbocharged 276-hp four-cylinder from the current model.

The 2024 Kona’s cabin also gets an update — it’s now airier and more minimalistic, creating almost a premium ambiance. The digital gauge cluster and the infotainment system consist of two 12.3-inch screens that neatly fit in with each other, while the center console neatly integrates the vents and controls for the HVAC system; there’s also a dial on the center console that acts as the mode selector.

Hyundai is silent on the powertrain specs, but more details should be available in the coming months.
