Yamaha Unveils XSR125 Urban Motorcycle

The Yamaha XSR125 is a stylish motorcycle for beginner riders, packing a 124cc engine producing 15hp, and a relatively advanced suspension system.

Yamaha has pulled covers off the latest iteration of its small displacement urban motorcycle, the much-awaited XSR125. The 125cc Urban Roadster sits below the larger XSR155 in the lineup and shares many similarities with its 155cc counterpart. The bike is a complete package of looks, features, and a comfortable ride and could be a big hit among young riders.

The XSR155-like cues are present mostly in the new XSR125 styling, which follows the same neo-retro-inspired design philosophy as its elder sibling. The urban commuters’ quirky style is demonstrated by its classic round full LED headlight and LED taillight, which surely catches the eye. However, at 1.9mm long, 800 mm wide, and 1.06 mm, the 125cc bike sits 10mm taller than the 155cc model. Moreover, a full LCD driver’s display, a round fuel tank of 11-liters capacity adorned with graphic stripes, and an 815mm high, single-piece, tuck and roll seat round off the motorcycle’s charming appeal.

The XSR125’s drivetrain is based on the same engine platform that underpins the MT-125 and R125. It is a 124cc liquid-cooled, SOHC, single-cylinder, four-valve unit producing 15hp (1kW) at 10,000 rpm and 11.5Nm of torque at 8000rpm. Yamaha has utilized a six-speed gearbox for a fun riding experience on various tracks.

Meanwhile, the XSR125 has a decent suspension setup for the category. It includes 37mm upside-down telescopic forks at the front and an aluminum swingarm at the back. In addition, a 267 mm front and a 220 mm rear disc take care of braking. Yamaha hasn’t stated an ABS, but we assume a single-channel ABS setup is standard. Furthermore, the bike has 17-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels, shod in 110/70-17 and 140/70-17 size tires with a unique block pattern at the front and back.

Overall, the XSR125’s light and durable chassis should make it easy for young riders to handle. The Deltabox frame with twin-spar provides “precise and predictable handling and easy steering for maximum riding confidence.”

Expect the XSR125 to arrive in Europe and the UK at the start of June, at a price tag of £4,450.
