In case you didn’t know yet, a teaser video released by Nissan back in May 2020 had revealed its brand new model — the 400Z, as a possible replacement of the iconic 370Z.
If the name alone wasn’t enough, as soon as people got a first glimpse at the car, it was obvious that it would be a replacement for its predecessor — the 370Z, and potentially a strong competitor to the Toyota Supra GR.
Nissan has released a rather dark and shadowy trailer video in which you can get a glimpse at the silhouette of what could be the next model in the Z family. Using these vague features, digital artist Guillaume Lerouge came up with a rendering of what the new car might look like.

There is also a bit of confusion about his depiction of the front grille, though. The top edge is a replica of the teaser, but we expect a lot more from Nissan regarding the main grille. The design of the car is also said to be inspired by the classic 240Z. There is a possibility that the grille would be a bit slimmer, incorporating Nissan’s latest V-motion theme.
As far as powertrain goes, the 400Z will probably come equipped with the Infiniti Q60 twin-turbo 3.0L V6 engine producing 300 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque, which a little below the 335 HP /365 lb-ft of the Supra GR. However, it’s safe to assume that Nissan would probably come up with a beefed-up Nismo variant, which should pose a threat to the Toyota Supra models.
Sean Hanley, Sales and Marketing Boss at Toyota Australia, mentioned in an interview that “they are not afraid of a little competition.” as there is no better motivator than some healthy rivalry to maintain interest in the field.
We can only wait for the final production models to come out and see how the two cars compare.
