Volvo First Automaker to Receive Top Safety Pick Plus on All Models

Volvo sets yet another benchmark in safety by being the first-ever Top Safety Pick Plus-rated manufacturer through its whole range.

The Swedish car manufacturer has long been a pioneer of cutting-edge automotive technology and safety features. Due to that fact, Volvo cars have long been the perfect epitome of reliability and safety among consumers worldwide. Now, Volvo went a step further by becoming the only and first-ever manufacturer to boast an IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus certification for its entire fleet.

As you might expect, getting a Top Safety Pick Plus award from the IIHS is no easy task. Automakers have to ensure their car gets through every regulatory check. The vehicles are rigorously tested for their durability, impact collision, and overall safety.

Interestingly enough, the Top Safety Pick Plus award prioritizes a car’s ability to avoid any collision in the first place and thus, assesses vital vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian crash prevention technology. The XC60 was one of Volvo’s first vehicles to feature such state-of-the-art safety systems as well as automatic emergency braking. Since then, other models like the Volvo S60, XC40, XC90, V90, S90 have followed suit.

“We have incorporated the best safety features into our cars regardless of body style, trim, or engine. Getting awarded the prestigious IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus accolade for our latest lineup is a huge honor for us. No other company in the history of this industry has achieved such an immense feat,” said Volvo Cars USA CEO Anders Gustafsson.

Today every single 2021 Volvo model comes with a Top Safety Pick Plus rating. Most of these models come with highly-rated headlights available as standard on all trim options.

According to reports, popular Volvo models like the S90, S90 Recharge, V90, V90 Cross Country, and V60 Cross Country have all received the Top Safety Pick Plus rating on March 31, 2021. The second batch got its rating in February comprising of models like the Volvo S60, S60 Recharge,  V60, V60 Recharge, XC40, XC60, XC60 Recharge, XC90, and the XC90 Recharge.

With such a highly-rated lineup, Volvo became a gold standard when it comes to safety and reliability. At this point, it’s hard to imagine how it could raise the bar higher. So what’s next? Self-driving maybe?
