Suzuki Misano Prototype

Suzuki Misano is an Electric Sports Car Concept Inspired by Motorcycles

With the recent EV boom, we have witnessed some really innovative concepts, and one such is the motorcycle-inspired Suzuki Misano.

If the name of this Suzuki sounds familiar to you, there’s a chance you might be a MotoGP fan. Indeed, this electric sports car concept was named after the Italian Misano circuit.

While the Japanese automaker is mainly known for its affordable compact hatchbacks and motorcycles, it has decided to spice things up with this new two-seater roadster concept, an exciting blend of the brand’s expertise in building both bikes and cars.

This EV was designed in collaboration with a team of 24 transportation design students at the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) in Turin, Italy, as a thesis project. Suzuki’s brand values, as well as the philosophy of La Dolce Vita, or “the good life,” served as major inspirations behind this idea.

Suzuki Misano is a roofless compact sports car measuring 157.5 inches from nose to tail, making it a bit longer than the Mazda MX-5 Miata but shorter than the Toyota Yaris. On the outside, its S-shaped headlights vaguely mirror the Suzuki logo, and the rear end is designed to maximize aerodynamic efficiency. The body is painted in purple, along with copper accents on the sides as well as the wheels.

Motorcycle-inspired touches are evident all around the roadster. For instance, instead of a traditional steering wheel, it comes with a control yoke and a small windscreen similar to what’s often seen on motorcycles. Besides, the seats are positioned in tandem (1+1) format on the left side, even though it has enough space for a conventional side-by-side configuration. The space at the right side is actually used to house the battery back as well as a sideways storage area.

At the moment, the automaker hasn’t revealed any details about the powertrain and also hasn’t announced any plans to bring this concept to the market (unsurprisingly). Suzuki Misano will be showcased at the Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile do Torino in Italy from May 15 to June 6.
