Volkswagen ID.4 Pro Gets a 20-Mile Range Increase for 2022

VW didn’t mention how it extracted extra range from the 2022 ID.4, but crucially, the electric crossover’s price will stay the same.

What’s better than getting an outstanding deal at a reasonable price? Well, it’s getting extra for no charge, of course! Well, that’s what Volkswagen has done for the new 2022 ID.4 all-electric SUV, as the range has now increased from 260 miles to 280 miles on one full charge.

These extra miles of happiness are also available for the rear-wheel-drive trim of the ID.4 Pro S, which can now drive up to 268 miles on one charge, a full 18-mile of upgrade. The 2022 ID.4 Pro and the ID.4 Pro S, both with all-wheel drive, also enjoy the extra mile upgrade, now lasting at 251 and 245 miles, respectively.

Volkswagen has not disclosed how it could squeeze extra range from the standard 82-kWh battery pack, but it might have to do with some software upgrades. The power figures remain the same, though – the entry-level model packs a rear motor producing 201 hp and 229 pound-feet of torque, while the AWD version gets an extra motor on the front axle for a combined 295 hp and 348 pound-feet of torque.

The company was also kind enough to provide the 2022 ID.4 with an improved DC fast-charging system, upgrading it from 125 kW to 135 kW. Furthermore, the German brand also offers three years of unlimited 30-minute charging sessions on Electrify America’s charging stations.

However, the ID.4 Pro retains the same economy numbers, with 121 MPGe city and 96 MPGe highway. It’s the same with the ID.4 Pro S, which gets 106 MPGe city and 96 MPGe highway.

Despite all upgrades on the 2022 ID.4 electric crossover, VW won’t charge extra. Hence, the base ID.4 starts at $40,760, whereas the top-of-the-range ID. 4 AWD Pro S costs $48,940. On top of that, the EV is eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit. Overall, it looks like a really good deal, and it might promote the 2022 ID.4 sales in the United States.
