Toyota dominates reliability charts in the UK, but that’s really nothing new.
A recent survey by “What Car?” revealed the UK’s top 50 reliable vehicles based only on models that are up to eight years old.
Moreover, “What Car?” based the survey on honest customer reviews. Specifically, owners told “What Car?” the best and the worst things about the specifications, usability, and functions.
The Japanese crossover comes in different engine options, including a 151bhp 2.0-liter petrol, 124bhp 2.0-litre, and 148bhp 2.2-litre diesel, and a 194bhp 2.5-liter petrol-electric hybrid. Toyota also offers a choice of manual and automatic transmissions, AWD or FWD. And overall, owners of the Toyota RAV4, all powertrains combined, were most satisfied with their vehicles.

Moreover, owners found the RAV4 to be easy to drive and live with. The diesel engines were the most popular, with a low initial price and good performance. Meanwhile, the hybrid model provides an excellent forward thrust while emitting less CO2 emissions. Comparatively, the petrol engines were the least favorite due to lower performance and higher consumption.
Initially, there were three variants available: Active, Icon, and Invincible. Active trims come with 17in alloy wheels, tinted rear windows, air conditioning, and Bluetooth. Meanwhile, the Icon variants have a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a powered tailgate, cruise control, and dual-zone climate control. Invincible got heated front seats, full leather upholstery, and rear parking sensors. Later, Toyota offered the Business Edition came up, an upgraded version of Active.
Customers also praised the compact SUV for its versatility. It provides a fair amount of space front and back and has a large boot. Budget-wise, a 2013-2014 model starts at £7000, while 2014-2015 models cost between £10,000 and £11,000. Both are available with average mileage. The 2017 model comes in between £14,000 to £16,000 while the 2019 model starts at £26,000 to £28,000.
Apart from its pros, there are some cons too. The most common issues are fuel leaks and fuel injectors issues. Despite these minor problems, the vehicle proves to be a dependable and easy to maintain used car. The RAV4 competes with Nissan Qashqai, Seat Ateca, BMW X3, and Range Rover Evoque on the market, which typically tend to be a lot less reliable.
Furthermore, Japanese vehicles largely dominated the survey. Toyota, for instance, had four models in the top 10, including Lexus’. But that doesn’t really come up as a surprise, right?
