The Toyota RAV4 is the best-selling crossover/SUV in the US for the fourth consecutive year, with only a slight dip compared to 2019.
Toyota has always been of the most beloved automobile brands in the US, achieving excellent sales year after year. And, unsurprisingly, the trend seems to continue for 2020. For the 9th straight year, Toyota has been the most popular auto manufacturer on American soil.
Toyota Motors North America just revealed 2020 sales figures, and the RAV4 is officially the best-selling SUV in the US for a fourth consecutive year. Toyota sold a total of 430,387 RAV4 in 2020, marginally less than the 448,071 units sold the previous year.
The RAV4 has also joined the elite list of Toyota vehicles that have achieved eight-figure sales. Moreover, the cumulative sales figure for the RAV4 crossed the 10 million mark in February 2020.
Interestingly, in 2019, the RAV4 was not only the best-selling SUV worldwide, but it was also the fourth best-selling passenger car. More than 500,000 units of the compact-SUV were sold in North America alone, while Europe was its second-biggest market with 133,000 RAV4 sold.
Apart from the compact SUV, Toyota continued its lead in the mid-size sedan segment, selling 294,342 Camrys. Worth mentioning, it’s the 19th year in a row that Toyota wins the category.
About the RAV4
The Toyota RAV4 is a compact crossover SUV that first launched in 1994 globally, reaching the American continent in 1995. Since its introduction, the RAV4 was one of the most popular vehicles from the manufacturer.
Toyota designed it specifically for customers who wanted to enjoy the benefits of SUV-like higher visibility, more cargo space, and leg-room, along with the fuel efficiency and maneuverability of a compact car.
The small SUV is now in its fifth generation, introduced in 2018 at the New York Auto Show. The current RAV4 also features a hybrid variant, 15% more powerful than its gasoline counterpart. The gasoline variant sales in the US started in December 2018, while the hybrid was made available by March the following year.
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 hybrid is equipped with a 2.5-liter hybrid petrol engine and a CVT gearbox. It has a maximum power output of 219 hp at 270 Nm of torque and delivers a pretty decent 41 mpg in the city.
