Toyota and Arctic Trucks collaborate to develop the Hilux AT35, a pickup truck that’s ready to tackle the most remote places on Earth.
Toyota’s Hilux pick-up truck is one of the toughest and most durable on the planet—no doubt about it. This mid-size truck has been around for a long time and has already proven itself alright, building a strong reputation for quality and reliability. As a result, saying it’s popular among off-roading enthusiasts would be an understatement.
However, for those who aren’t satisfied with the regular model, the Japanese automaker has teamed up with Arctic Trucks to develop an even meaner machine—the Toyota Hilux AT35.
Arctic Trucks is an aftermarket tuning firm specialized in customizing trucks for harsh winter use. For this project, the company chose to start with a Hilux Invincible X. Consequently, the Hilux AT35 has several similarities, including the 2.8-liter turbodiesel producing 201 HP and 370 lb-ft of torque, plus a 6-speed automatic transmission.
However, the team at Arctic Trucks made some significant tweaks to really make it snowbank-climbing-ready. For instance, the AT35 now features extensive chassis upgrades to better cope with uneven terrain and 17-inch alloys wrapped in 35-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires.
Furthermore, Arctic Trucks has fitted the Hilux AT35 with an upgraded Bilstein performance suspension system, including adjustable anti-roll bars, front springs, and rear dampers with extended shackles. The new suspension increases the ground clearance by 65 mm and provides improved approach/departure angles.
But it’s not all about performance; Toyota and Arctic Trucks also upgraded the design for better practicability. Notably, there is a new rear bumper with a receiver hitch for towing. The wheel arches are also wider to accommodate the larger wheels, while the side steps are bigger, so it’s easier to get inside.
Inside the Hilux AT35, the interior is pretty much the same as the Invincible X, including leather upholstery, an eight-inch infotainment screen, JBL sound system, ambient lighting, and an electrically-adjustable driver’s seat.
UK customers can order the Hilux AT35 directly from Toyota for £18,780 (+VAT) on top of the Invincible X’s price.
