Only a month after the official reveal, 2021 Nissan Kicks is now officially launched!
According to Nissan’s press release, the entry-level 2021 Kicks model carries a price tag of $20,595, $430 more than its predecessor. However, despite the spike in price, the new Kicks still remains one of the most affordable SUVs on the market.
But what changes has Nissan brought to the 2021 Kicks, and are they worth the price buff? To start with, Nissan has made some styling changes, and the new variant now features a new Double V-Motion grille upfront. Moreover, the 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the base 2021 Kicks is now compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This feature was previously only available on the SV and SR variants. For the new model, you also get improved headlights and taillights along with NissanConnect Services. The base variant also gets Nissan Safety Shield 360 with added Rear Automatic Braking.
With the base 2021 Kicks done, let’s talk about the midrange SV and top-of-the-line SR trim. Both trims now boast an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, one inch larger than the one on the 2020 SV variant. You also get an integrated armrest thanks to the redesigned center console along with an electrically operated parking brake.
Another major upgrade is rear disc brakes instead of the drum models used in the 2020 variant. Other features include three USB ports and a USB-C port.
Talking about the pricing, the SV trim now carries a price tag of $22,450, a hike of $655, while the SR trim will set you back $23,090, $675 more than in 2020.
The 2021 Nissan Kicks SR is also offered with an optional premium package costing $24,290. By paying an additional $1,200, you get heated front seats, three-tone interior, heated steering wheel, Prima-Tex upholstery, a security camera, 8-speaker Bose audio system, and a WiFi hotspot.
Unfortunately, Nissan has made no changes to the powertrain of the 2021 Kicks, still being powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine generating 163 hp and 114 lb-ft of torque. The power is delivered from the engine to the front wheels using a CVT gearbox. The Kicks might not be that powerful; on the other hand, it’s quite efficient at 31 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.
The real question here is: So? Would you get one?
