Elon Musk promised a subscription option for the full-self driving feature, and he’s about to deliver!
If real-life individuals played a movie-role, Elon Musk would probably be Iron Man. Elon is one of the most influential persons nowadays, and with Tesla, he not only made electric cars a reality – he changed the ways we view cars. And now, his company is launching a full-self-driving feature as a subscription.
Tesla named the software “Full Self-Driving,” which came across a lot of criticism. Also, owners would need to pay $10,000, which might not be a suitable option if you lease your Tesla. Besides, Tesla hasn’t released the software yet – it’s still in the beta stage.
However, Elon Musk has recently announced that his team is currently working on providing a subscription option for its FSD. The company might release it by the end of this year or at the beginning of the next one. This would be a great deal for people who are willing to experiment with the FSD package or are leasing the vehicles.

However, according to Elon, buying FSD would be a much better option since it would be a future investment. He believes that the investment would surely pay off, especially when they decide to resell their car. He said, “In my opinion, buying FSD is something people will not regret doing.”
Unlike others, Tesla doesn’t require you to purchase any additional part for the upgrade, making upgrading an easy task. The hardware is already present – it’s the software that Tesla locks. And just like any update, once purchased, the feature could be downloaded over-the-air.
However, until Tesla releases the final prices and other details, it is tough to say which option is better. But if Tesla decides to charge a monthly fee of $400 to $500, it would be much better to buy the software.
Although Tesla names the software Full-Self Driving, it’s also important to note that it’s technically a Level 2 self-driving feature. Or, at least, that’s how Tesla is currently marketing the feature towards authorities.
As of now, the beta is still not banned, but things might change when it launches fully next year.
