Shelby’s Ford F-250 Super Baja brings a whopping 1,050 lb-ft of torque to the off-roading game.
Named after the Super Duty, this super truck packs exclusive off-road goodies and an enormous towing capacity. Of course, there are many other off-road-oriented trucks in Ford’s lineup, including the F-150 Raptor, Super Duty Tremor, Shelby Raptor, and the upcoming Raptor R. However, Shelby’s Super Baja combines the pure power of the Super Duty and Baja-ready off-roading capabilities.
The new F-250 Super Baja’s special power is the massive 20,000-pound towing capacity straight from the factory. That’s a lot, especially compared to the F-150 Raptors 8,200-pound. Such power comes thanks to Ford’s PowerStroke 6.7-liter turbo-diesel V8 engine, good for 475 horsepower and a whopping 1,050 lb-ft of torque. The mighty mill is paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission sending the power to all four wheels. The engine remains stock and comes with the Ford warranty, but other aspects have been modified to make the F-250 Super Baja truly off-road-ready.
In terms of design, the F-250 Super Baja has been equipped with a ram air hood, a tire rack to hold two spare tires, and heavy-duty bumpers. Also included are sporty LED lights, additional body accents, and power-retractable side steps. To outperform any mud-terrain tire in off-road performance, the F-250 Super Baja has 18-inch wheels wrapped in 37-inch BFGoodrich KM3 tires.
Shelby worked with Fox to produce a bespoke suspension system that could provide the Super Baja with the balance it needs for off-roading. Custom front radius arms and dual steering stabilizer have been added, with a new BDS suspension lift system in place. Shelby also added front coilovers with Fox 2.5 adjustable reservoirs and 2.5 Fox Factory Race adjustable rear shocks with piggyback reservoirs.
The Super Baja has received full-body rally racing stripes from front to back, showboating its off-roading DNA. Along with the classic Shelby badging, the front grille has been painted black, with a LED light bar in front. The cabin sees new leather seat covers, embroidered logos, carbon fiber accents, and metal racing pedals.
The company plans to build only 250 copies of the F-250 Super Baja, and orders are open right now. The whole package will cost $125,805, including the base model F-250 4×4 Lariat.
Not cheap, but boy, do I want one!
