The Rolls-Royce Phantom Oribe was manufactured for Japanese business tycoon Yusaku Maezawa, a collector of ancient Japanese ceramicware.
Rolls-Royce has a knack for conjuring Bespoke editions of its iconic cars, handcrafted to cater to the whims of very special buyers. Unparalleled in terms of luxury and exclusivity, Rolls-Royce had embarked on yet another quest to create a genuinely one-of-its-kind automotive masterpiece, this time in partnership with the French luxury icon Hermes.
Japanese business tycoon Yusaku Maezawa, a billionaire art collector, wanted a car that would be more than just a vehicle, representing his lifestyle and inspired by his massive collection of ancient Japanese ‘Oribe’ ceramicware. Maezawa dreamt of a car that would be an extension of his private jet, allowing him to bring the luxury and poshness of private air travel to the roads. Rolls-Royce gladly accepted the challenge and presented him with a Phantom Oribe tailored exclusively to his taste.
Oribe is a traditional style of Japanese pottery that has its roots in the 16th century. The traditional ceramicware is characterized by an ombre glaze, which the British automaker has perfectly replicated on the Bespoke Phantom. Painted harmoniously in cream and a bespoke shade of green, dubbed ‘Oribe green,’ the car truly captures the spirit of Maezawa-san’s awe-inspiring collection. Created exclusively for the Bespoke Phantom, Oribe green is reminiscent of the ancient ceramics’ luster and glaze and sits perfectly atop the cream-colored lower section.
Meanwhile, designers at Hermes weaved magic inside the car. Indeed, wishing to drape the client in luxury and comfort, Hermes decided to follow an unusual route and cover pretty much everything in the cabin with its signature premium Enea Green leather—steering wheel, duchess handles, gear selector, climate control dials, glove-box interiors, and even the luggage compartment and champagne cooler.
Furthermore, exquisite saddlery-inspired Hermes stitchwork decorates the headrest cushions and rear calf supports. In an exceptional gesture of courtesy and mutual esteem, Rolls-Royce embossed the glove-box lid with the famed Habillé par Hermès Paris signature.
The Phantom wouldn’t be a Rolls-Royce and a symbol of exquisite handcraftsmanship without the Phantom Gallery. Running along the entire length of the fascia, the Gallery is designed to display custom-made works-of-art. Going by the golden words “True Luxury is Personal,” the Bespoke Phantom Oribe Gallery would enclose a Pierre Peron-inspired artwork in a protective glass encasing, reflecting the taste, desire, and personality of the client.
While Bespoke Rolls-Royce editions are nothing new, the British company seems to outdo itself in every subsequent venture. The moment you believe Rolls-Royce has reached the pinnacle of exclusivity, and personalization, the company strikes again with another masterpiece. Handcrafted to perfection, the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Phantom Oribe is a truly unique creation pushing the bar in the luxury car segment a little higher.
