The Prior Design VW Golf GTI features an aggressive widebody kit with flared wheel arches, although it’s currently only a render.
The newly launched 2022 VW Golf GTI hatchback may have evolved in performance and technology, but the design has left us wanting more. Some enthusiasts claim that the styling of the Golf MK8 is a step down from the MK7/7.5 version and that even in the sportier GTI trim, it doesn’t look much exciting compared to its performance. If you share this viewpoint, Prior Design’s Golf GTI concept is a must-watch for you.
You may have seen Prior Design’s work on flagship cars from Mercedes, Porsche, Bentley, Audi, BMW, and Tesla, but have you heard of them customizing a Volkswagen? If you haven’t already, here you go. The German tuning specialist has revealed renderings and a concept video of an aggressive widebody kit for the 2022 Golf GTI, giving this hot hatch the makeover it deserves.
The front end features a bolder bumper, a longer front splitter, and a larger air intake opening. Meanwhile, the side profile looks strong, thanks to the extended side skirts and those dramatically flared wheel arches joined by a new winglet that runs the length of the wheelbase.
At the back, there’s a new twin bump-style roof spoiler, a muscular bumper, and a rugged diffuser flanked by air intakes on each side. Prior Design has retained the standard Golf GTI’s single-pipe exhaust system, although the ground clearance seems lower. Furthermore, custom twin five-spoke wheels and a Prior Design graphic strip add to the hatchback’s overall sharper appearance. Apart from that, the tuner didn’t announce mechanical changes.
The 2022 Golf GTI does not really require a performance boost, and the tuner shared the same thought. Hence, it keeps the factory 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine, producing a decent 242hp and 370Nm (273lb-ft) of torque. Meanwhile, the more powerful GTI Clubsport model packs 296hp and 400Nm (295lb-ft) of torque.
Prior Designs has not confirmed the production of this Golf GTI body kit; thus, we do not currently have pricing information. However, we’d love to see these renderings come to life!
