Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD

Opel Manta GSe ElektroMod is a Retro EV With a Pixel-Vizor Digital Grille

Opel reimagines its cult model as a sleek retro-inspired electric coupé concept called the Manta GSe ElektroMod.

Building an electric concept based on the all-time classic 1970 Opel Manta coupé, the company blends both its past and the future into one striking EV. The Manta GSe retains the iconic design and black hood from the sportiest GS/E version of the classic while incorporating a few changes of its own. However, saying “a few changes” would be an understatement as the coupe gets a complete all-electric makeover, including a fully digital cockpit.

Not only that but in place of the traditional four-cylinder petrol engine, lies a powerful electric motor powered by a massive battery pack. As you might have deduced, the “E” in its name now stands for electrified power instead of direct fuel injection. However, what really steals the show is its stunning and futuristic Pixel-Vizor front grille stretching across the entire front fascia, displaying various messages.

In a recent teaser video released by the company, the Manta GSe ElektroMod’s front grille displayed the messages “My German heart has been ELEKTRified’, ‘I am on a zero e-mission and ‘I am an ElektroMOD’” followed by an animation of a manta ray swimming past Opel‘s logo. Apart from that, the Pixel-Vizor grille is also capable of communicating with its surroundings. With such a futuristic grille screen, the Manta GSe appears to come straight out of Cyberpunk 2077.

“The Manta GSe ElektroMod is a benchmark of automotive engineering bringing the finest designers, 3D modelers, engineers, technicians, mechanics, product, and brand experts together. This futuristic coupe officially marks the transition from the great Opel tradition to a more sustainable future and we all get to be a part of this change,” said Opel’s Global Brand design manager Pierre-Olivier Garcia.

Unfortunately, we are yet to hear about the specifications. And even worse, inside reports even claim that it would be built only as a one-off model. However, even though the Manta GSe is yet to debut and the fact that nobody will probably be able to get their hands on one, it does give us an insight into what Opel’s future has in store for us.

More details to come closer to the Opel Manta GSe Elektromod’s unveiling on May 19.
