Nissan Ariya gets a greener approach towards body paint with colors designed for the electric era.
On its newest model, the Ariya, Nissan worked on ideas to significantly reduce CO2 output during body paint applications. The goal here was to innovate and rethink the whole process of applying paint and achieving a greener product overall.
The Japanese automaker plans to use water-based paint, which would reduce the operational temperature, resulting in a 25% reduction in CO2 emissions during the entire painting process.
“The ingenuity the Nissan Ariya represents inspired us to adopt an entirely new mindset for color design,” said the color manager at Nissan Design Europe, Lesley Busby. “Ariya is the culmination of Nissan’s electric mobility expertise and a strong statement of intent for the future of EV design. We, therefore, worked hard to introduce a truly futuristic and technology-driven design language for the colors, analyzing them in detail to create the perfect match for Ariya’s innovative personality.”
The Ariya will be available in four monotone and six two-tone color options, including Pearl Blue, Burgundy, Gun Metallic, Warm Silver, Ceramic Grey, and Tinted Red.
Nissan looked at which colors were the most popular globally, and unsurprisingly, black and white came out on top. Consequently, Nissan prepared two unique monochrome shades, Pearl White and Pearl Black. According to Nissan, Pearl White provides “more brilliance and clarity than ever before on a Nissan vehicle,” while Pearl Black “elevates the depth of the paint and creates a rich, captivating experience” thanks to a newly developed pigment.
Nissan Ariya will also feature two brand-new color combinations—Akatsuki Copper and Aurora Green. The former’s name is derived from Japan’s phrase for ‘dawn’ while the Copper part pays homage to the EV’s metallic sparkle highlighting copper’s conductivity. On the other hand, Aurora Green is inspired by the Northern Lights, with changing hue, becoming either green or purple depending on the angle. Once they become available on the production models, both these colors are set to leave everyone mesmerized.
Nissan’s decision to reduce CO2 emissions is one more step in the right direction. We sure hope that other automakers will join and work on adopting a similar concept in the future.
