Mercedes-Benz V-Class Gains Ultra-Comfy Airmatic Air Suspension

Vans have really come a long way in recent years, and Mercedes-Benz continues improving its V-Class, bringing it closer to S-Class levels of comfort.

Mercedes-Benz recently announced its Airmatic Air suspension system’s availability as an option for its ‘van with windows’ segment. The highly capable system will now be available for the Mercedes passenger van range, including the EQV electric van, the Vito Tourer, eVito Tourer, and the Marco Polo Adventure variants.

Mercedes hold this system in very high regard, claiming it to provide maximum ride comfort in any situation. Each damper features two different valves used to control rebound and compression, so each wheel can be individually adjusted, resulting in utmost ride comfort even over rough terrain. Moreover, thanks to the double valve setup, this system also makes the whole van considerably quieter.

The vehicle will also ensure that a constant ride-height will be maintained irrespective of load conditions. The German automaker also claims that in addition to providing superior comfort levels, this suspension system also contributes to a lower fuel-consumption rating at higher speeds.

The driver has the luxury of choosing from three different driving modes. In Comfort mode, the van will ride on standard height, up to speeds of 68 MPH(110 kph), after which, the van will lower itself by 10 mm for better stability and driving dynamics. Sport mode will lower the vehicle by 10 mm regardless of the speed, and Lift mode will raise the van by up to 35 mm below speeds of 18 MPH (30 kph). Lift mode will make it easier for the vehicle to tackle uneven ground with a reduced risk of damage to the cargo and the vehicle itself.

The Airmatic system joins other major updates the V-class has received last year, such as adding the MBUX infotainment system and a highly efficient diesel engine mated to a 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox. These updates make the van a very appealing package.

If you’re all about that #vanlife, you should maybe give the V-Class a shot.
