Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series: Fastest Production Car at Nürburgring

Mercedes bags another production car record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series piloted by professional GT3 racing driver Maro Engel went around the 12.8-mile circuit of the Nordschleife in a record-breaking 6 minutes and 43.616 seconds. This time was good enough to dethrone the mighty Lamborghini Aventador SVJ that previously held the record since July 2018, after lapping the circuit in 6 minutes and 44.97 seconds. The German marque also released a second time of 6 minutes and 48.047 seconds, the time it took for Engel to complete the longer 12.944-mile format of the circuit.

AMG Settings

In a press release, Mercedes stated that although the car was completely stock, some adjustments were made to the driving dynamics to get optimal performance on the track. The brand also added that buyers will also be able to make the same adjustments on their cars.

The front splitter was set in the ‘Race’ position, and the lower and upper wing blades of the rear wing were set in their middle position. The supercar’s adjustable suspension was lowered by 5 mm in the front and 3 mm at the rear. The adjustable anti-roll bars were also set to their hardest setting, and the camber of the wheels was set at negative 3.8 degrees and negative 3.0 degrees at the front and rear axles respectively. And last but not least, the AMG-GT range’s famous yellow dial used to adjust the traction control setting was switched between positions 6 & 7 at different points of the track.

Combined with the adjustments mentioned above, a fresh set of track-focused Michelin Cup 2 R tires and AMG’s most powerful V8 engine pushing 730 horses got Mercedes another impressive record and unlimited bragging rights.
