Maserati Will Offer Only Electrified Cars from 2025

Like most carmakers, Maserati is going the electrified route, but most models will feature a hybrid powertrain instead of a full-electric.

Nearly four months back, Maserati announced the all-new MC-12, its first-ever hybrid-electric model. And now, the manufacturer just announced that, by 2025, it would have electrified all models in its lineup either entirely or partially.

In September this year, the Italian manufacturers unveiled the all-new MC20, a supercar with an electric vision. Although we don’t know when Maserati will launch the full-electric version, it is sure to happen.

The company also announced the 2021 Maserati Ghibli Hybrid sedan earlier this year. Regarding the other vehicles in the lineup, David Grasso, Maserati’s COO, commented, “The new Gran Turismo and Gran Cabrio models will be electrified too; all our lineup will be electrified in the next five years.”

However, when manufacturers mention the word “electrified,” it’s not necessarily the same as “electric.” Indeed, when Maserati talks about electrifying its powertrains, it’s really talking about hybrid tech and not all-electric.

That being said, the decision to go electric is not entirely surprising. FCA already announced last year it would be investing $6 billion to convert to electric or hybrid powertrains.

Although plans for the Maserati Levante are not clear yet, it will also be launched with an all-electric or hybrid powertrain at some point. In fact, Fiat Chrysler is already building a battery hub at Mirafiori complex, where Maserati builds the Levante.

We all know that sooner or later, we will have to switch to sustainable mobility. And there’s no denying it, the switch is already well underway. This is why more and more car manufacturers plan to go electric in the upcoming years, including Maserati.

It will be quite interesting to see how will Maserati overcomes the challenges of going all-electric. But what do you think? Will Maserati’s fanbase follow the new trend, or will supercar enthusiasts just switch for carmakers planning to keep making ICE engines like Ferrari instead?
