Legacy Overland Toyota FJ40 Restomod Packs a Chevy 350 V8

The Legacy Overland Toyota FJ40 packs an American V8 punch, and a beautifully finished exterior and interior that keeps the classic style.

Legacy Overland restores and modifies old FJ40 Land Cruisers and turns them into a rolling piece of art. Despite its remarkable portfolio, the team seems to have outdone itself with the 1971 Land Cruiser FJ40 restomod. Sure the great-grandson of this car, the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser 300, is impressive, but still, it cannot match the temptation oozing from this modified dark gray metallic classic beauty.

The Legacy Overland FJ40 packs a Chevrolet 350 cubic inch V8 with a Holly 600 CFM carburetor and a four-speed manual gearbox. We don’t have information on the 0-60 time, but we reckon it should be quick enough for such a vehicle.

Meanwhile, goodies like halogen headlights, rear ambulance doors, and a rear spear tire on the swing-out carrier come standard on this car. Since off-roading is the primary purpose of this beauty, Legacy Overland installed meaty BFGoodrich A/T tires for increased traction, along with disc brakes on all four wheels.

The biggest changes are inside, with an air conditioner being the most important new feature. We take climate control for granted today, but the original FJ40 could only cool you by opening the windows.

Furthermore, there are two bucket seats for the driver and the passenger wrapped in leather upholstery and extra gauges on the dashboard. The attention to detail looks particularly impressive, with Legacy Overland opting to keep the FJ40 style intact. Still, the devil is in the details, like the 8-ball shifter and steering wheel covered in leather. On a long trip, you can jam to Led Zeppelin, thanks to the premium sound system.

Other significant changes include an all-black roll cage with two sideways benches in the rear. The SUV is now up for sale, but the price is yet to be disclosed. Although, we do hope that we could see it leaving trails on tropical mud rather than being caged as a museum piece.
