Jaguar Says Goodbye to Gasoline, Switching Entire Lineup to EVs Next Year

British carmaker Jaguar is preparing to discontinue gasoline engines, setting the stage for an all-electric lineup.

Jaguar, the iconic British automaker, is roaring into the future with a bold move: it’s ditching gas cars entirely to embrace a lineup of electric vehicles (EVs). That’s right, come June, Jaguar will cease production of its current lineup, including favorites like the XF, E-Pace, and F-Pace. But this isn’t the end of Jaguar—it’s more like a rebirth.

The decision to go all-in on electric comes after Jaguar’s announcement back in 2021 that it aimed to become an all-electric brand by 2025. It’s a gutsy strategy, considering it means stopping production of gas-powered models well before the new electric ones roll out. But Jaguar has a plan.

According to Joe Eberhardt, President and CEO of Jaguar Land Rover North America, it’s ramping up to ensure there’s enough of the current models to keep Jaguar lovers happy until the new electric fleet arrives. “We’re trying to time it so we have enough volume to take us through to the launch of the new product and have a clean handover,” Eberhardt told Road & Track.

This transition means we might not see new Jaguars on the lot for a bit after the current ones sell out. The company is focusing on quality over quantity, projecting to sell fewer vehicles as it shifts gears toward its electric future. Back in 2017, Jaguar was selling close to 180,000 vehicles globally. Now, it’s aiming for around 50,000 units when the first wave of new-age EVs hits the market.

So, what can we expect from Jaguar’s electric lineup? First up is a four-seat GT set to make its debut this year, with sales kicking off in 2025. This is slated to be the most powerful Jaguar ever, boasting a range of up to 430 miles. That’s enough juice to tackle long road trips without the anxiety of running out of power. Following the GT, two more electric models are expected to launch in late 2025 and 2026, all built on the new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA).

It’s clear Jaguar is not just dipping its toes in the electric waters—it’s diving in headfirst. While the transition might seem abrupt, it’s part of a broader industry trend toward sustainability and reducing carbon footprints. Plus, it puts Jaguar in direct competition with high-performance electric models from Porsche and Audi, among others.

For car enthusiasts and Jaguar fans, this is rather sad news. Saying goodbye to the roar of Jaguar’s gas engines is indeed tough. But Jaguar is entering a new era, one that promises innovation, power, and a commitment to a greener future.

So, let’s see if it can keep the brand’s spirit alive while electrifying its lineup.
