10 minutes is all it took!
The Hummer that GM discontinued in 2010 is now making an electric return in 2022 under the GMC nametag. After pulling the wraps off the Hummer EV, GMC announced reservations for the highly-controversial electric model. And to everyone’s surprise, the truck sold out in just 10 minutes. With that being said, GMC hasn’t revealed the exact number of Edition 1 models its plans on producing. Edition 1 is the top-level trim and the only one offered at the moment, but other lower trims are expected to be released later.
The Edition 1 costs $112,595 and uses three electric motors, two for the rear wheels and one for the front axle. The combined output is around 1,000 horsepower and a staggering 11,500 lb-ft of torque at the wheels. The powertrain propels the EV from 0-60 mph in 3.0 seconds when something GM calls “adrenaline mode” is selected.
As you’d expect, the top model comes fully equipped. It comes with standard 18-inch wheels with 35-inch tires, adaptive air suspension, removable roof panels, and underbody cameras for off-roading. Moreover, a four-wheel-steering system allows the rear wheels to turn up to 10 degrees. The Hummer EV has 15.9-inches of ground clearance.
The truck will come with a 200-kWh battery pack, good enough for 350+ miles of range. Meanwhile, a 400-volt fast charger will add 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. On a conventional charger, it will need 30 hours to charge from 20 to 100%.
The list of innovative equipment and impressive features that come with the Hummer EV is simply too long to list all here, and that’s probably one of the main reasons why it sold out that quickly.
Although Edition 1 is sold-out, GMC will allow customers to reserve one of the other three trim levels for a $100 deposit. However, clients might have to wait a long time to get their hands on one, though. Additionally, if it’s within your budget, don’t forget to tick the box to be put on the waiting list for Edition 1 in case spots open up.
