Ford Showcases Next Gen Mustang NASCAR Racing Car

After nearly two years of development, Ford’s Next Gen Mustang is finally here!

NASCAR has revealed its schedule for the 2022 season, and automakers like Ford, Chevrolet, and Toyota have already unveiled their Next Gen cars.

Next Gen cars is an idea where companies make racing cars look as realistic as possible, similar to the commercial models they are based on. Gen-7, the Next-Gen car for the 2022 NASCAR season, features improved aerodynamics packages and focuses on downforce. The new body style of the Gen-7 was destined to debut in the 2021 Daytona 500 until the COVID-19 pandemic hit the whole world and NASCAR had to postpone the whole racing schedule to 2022.

The Next Gen Mustang has been redesigned entirely and built for the future. It now gets an independent suspension system, bigger wheel profiles, and a wider road presence. The car is powered by the company’s V8 engine that can deliver 550 hp to 670 hp, depending on the track. The engine is paired with a five-speed sequential-shift transmission system and is advanced enough to incorporate racing-grade hybrid powertrains.

“As the automotive industry continues to change, we’ll have the ability to keep up in the racing world without having to go through a complete overhaul or redesign of the car,” says Mark Rushbrook, global director at Ford Performance Motorsport, who’s glad about the release of the Gen-7 finally.

Ford Performance techno center in North Carolina hosted the car’s development, and it is still developing, as Ford says. The designing teams are constantly working on the car’s aerodynamics to make it a winner at the 2022 NASCAR Cup.

Along with Ford’s Mustang, Toyota’s Camry and Chevrolet’s Camaro will compete as Next Gen cars in the 2022 NASCAR Race Cup.
