With the new-generation Raptor still in the development phase, enthusiasts expect the EcoBoost HO to join the F-150’s engine lineup by 2021.
The F-150 Raptor always had the reputation of being the pick-up for everyone, mainly thanks to the engine lineup. Customers could opt for a base 3.3-litre V6 to the mighty 3.5-Litre EcoBoost V6 HO (high output).
However, with the release of the 2021 Ford F-150, everyone noticed that the HO EcoBoost was missing. Ford doesn’t offer the variant even on the Limited trim, baffling a lot of potential customers.
Although Ford has promised that the next-gen Raptor is under development, they didn’t disclose anything about the powertrain. The 2020 model featured a high-output EcoBoost V6 making 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the regular EcoBoost provides “only” 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.
Nonetheless, Ford already has a powertrain that’s closely in power. The new PowerBoost V6 hybrid produces a healthy 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque.
For those that want more, though, Ford might boost the EcoBoost even further. It’s not confirmed yet, but Ford might exclusively use the HO EcoBoost for its new F-150 Raptor.

According to Ford Authority, the F-150 might also receive V8 treatment like the current and previous generations. One such engine might be the 5.0 naturally-aspirated unit. However, rumors suggest the supercharged 5.2-liter motor from the 2020 Mustang GT500, making close to 700 horsepower.
With that said, the automotive market already shifts to green technologies, like electricity. Thus, a 700-hp gas-powered engine might not sound right in this day and age, but there sure is a market for it.
Moreover, Ford already shifted focus toward EV’s with the Mustang Mach-E and will next year announce the F-150 Electric. It will be interesting to see how die-hard truck enthusiasts react to it.
