The Estrema Fulminea is coming!
The Fulminea, translating to Extreme Lightning, is the first all-Italian electric hypercar introduced by Estrema Automobili—and the name speaks for itself.
It features a unique hybrid battery pack that merges the power of solid cells with ultracapacitors. The ultracapacitors are located at the front axle, whereas the larger solid-state lithium-ion battery pack is situated behind the passenger space, precisely in front of the rear axle. Both these cells are stored in carbon fiber cases for extra durability.
The 100 kWh battery is designed and developed by Avesta Battery Energy Engineering. It has an impressive energy density of 450 Wh/kg. For instance, the Tesla Model 3’s battery is around only 260 Wh/kg. And it does not weigh too much as well, adding 661 lbs. to the car’s overall weight of 3,307 lbs. As per the auto manufacturer, Fulminea can deliver a range of about 323 miles measured on the WLTP cycle.
The overall propulsion system consists of four electric motors, one on each wheel, combined for delivering well over 2,000 horsepower. Fulminea, a bolt of lightning, manages to accelerate from 0 to 200 mph in less than 10 seconds, Automobili Estrema claim.
Of course, Automobili Estrema is not a big gun in the hypercar segment yet. Still, its founder Gianfranco Pizzuto is a man of expertise as he was the co-founder and shareholder in Fisker Automotive in 2007. The company’s intentions are very clear: it’s ready to rock the hypercar world.
However, we will have to wait for a little while to see it reach the market. In reality, it will arrive only in the second half of 2023, with a total of 61 units to be manufactured in Modena. How far would it set you back? The brand new Fulminea is currently valued at €2 million, making it a car for the fortunate few.
The Fulminea will be unveiled live to the public at the Turin Automobile Museum on May 13.
We’ll keep you posted!
