Citroën C5 X

Citroën C5 X is an Attractive Flagship Wagon/Crossover

Citroën took the wraps off its latest flagship, the plug-in hybrid C5 X, showing a successful avant-garde blend of a wagon and a crossover.

As Citroën describes it, the C5 X is a crossover SUV with inputs of an estate car. It borrows inspiration from the CXperience concept introduced at the Paris Motor Show in 2016. The ‘fastback body style’ design language, as the brand calls it, gives the car an appealing look with excellent aerodynamics.

The Citroën C5 X measures 4,805 mm long, 1,865 wide and 1,485 high. The wheelbase is 2,785 mm, par for the course in the European mid-size segment. As a result, the interior provides excellent legroom in the back, along with 545 liters of trunk space.

The exterior design is quite edgy, with lots of cuts and creases for a sportier look. The body rests on 19-inch alloy wheels with a unique design. Meanwhile, CX 5’s lights are nothing shy of works of art with V-shaped LED units placed on the front and rear end, giving the car the signature Citroën look.

The flagship model comes with a comfortable cabin with industry-leading upholstery. The seats feature special padding of thick cushion-type substance, ensuring the highest postural comfort for the passengers. Furthermore, Citroën specifically focused on acoustics to lower down engine, wind, and road noise. The panoramic roof and giant window cutouts fill the car with lots of natural light and an airy feeling, further aiding the comfortable nature of the C5 X. As the designer of the vehicle Pierre Leclercq started, “it’s a car you want to drive, but you want to be driven in as well.”

Inside the cabin, the Citroën’s flagship is loaded with features. At the center of it all is the My Citroën Drive plus infotainment system, featuring a 12-inch high-definition touch screen. The unit comes with many customizable widgets and display settings and connects with the driver through voice recognition. Other specifications include a heads-up color display with a wide-scale projection so that the driver won’t have to take the eyes of the road. Moreover, a wireless charging pad and multiple USB ports are also on offer.

Under the hood of the C5 X is a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-4 gas engine, aided by an electric motor. The total power of the plug-in hybrid powertrain is 225 hp; however, the C5 X can drive up to 84 mph and provide 31-miles of range. Later, the C5 X will be available with gas-only powertrains.

Like most modern mid-size cars in Europe, the C5 X comes with a plethora of safety features, including driver assistance, cruise-drive assist, blind spot assist, rear and cross-traffic alert, and a 360 degrees parking camera.

Citroën delivers the first models by the second half of 2021. Prices are still unavailable but expect a sizeable increase over the current C5.
