Bugatti Chiron Does the Quarter-Mile in 9.4 Seconds

Its closest rival is the all-American Challenger SRT Demon.

Today, there sure are a lot of blazingly fast supercars out there. But when talking about the ultimate one, Bugatti Chiron tops the list 9 out of 10 times. Bugatti first introduced the Chiron at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. It has been designed and developed by Bugatti Engineering in Germany and manufactured in Molsheim, France by Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. The Chiron Sport is powered by an 8-liter turbocharged W16 engine churning out 1,479 hp and 1,600 Nm of torque, good enough to reach speeds up to 260 mph in just a few seconds.

Recently, Car and Driver took the Bugatti Chiron for a ride, and the results were absolutely ridiculous. The Chiron became the fastest car the magazine has ever tested, covering the quarter-mile in just 9.4 seconds at an unbelievable speed of 158 mph.

Surprisingly, regardless of the fantastic result, the Bugatti Chiron is not the fastest car when it comes to sheer 0-60 mph time. According to Car and Driver, the Chiron takes 2.4 seconds to hit the 60 mph mark, the same as its predecessor, the Veyron.

Car and Driver started testing the quickest cars in 1955. Just as vehicles evolved in all these years, its approach also progressed, becoming more and more scientific as years passed. Still, some things remained the same, as the magazine usually conducts a quarter-mile test with every car as a baseline.

After all, when it comes to judging a sports car’s performance, its quarter-mile performance plays a vital role. As a staple of American racing, a quarter-mile sprint gives a very clear idea of how powerful a car is.

Until now, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon was the fastest quarter-mile car, covering the distance in 9.65 seconds at 140 mph, with the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport following with a time of 9.7 seconds at the speed of 145 mph.

That being said, unlike the Demon, which can be bought for imaginable amounts of money, the Chiron’s extraordinary performance comes with an extraordinary price tag of $3 million.

I suddenly like American muscle a lot more…
