With its flagship 600 hp 7.6 liter V12 Verado outboard engine, Mercury Marine has brought a storm in the high-horsepower outboard market.
Brunswick Corporation’s marine engine division introduced the beast on different boats at its reputed Lake X research facility in Florida. Mercury Marine’s V12 Verado outboard engine will completely transform the watercraft industry, as it introduces several industry-firsts. More specifically, the powerful 600 hp engine with a world-first 2-speed automatic transmission will be a thing of joy for captains.
Over the years, outboards have evolved as the primary choice for American boat owners. This design has won their hearts with its superb performance, fewer carbon emissions, and smooth operation.
At the same time, watercraft have grown bigger into center console boats, luxury yachts, and cruisers. In fact, outboard engines are considered far superior in the boating industry despite lower power generation. In comparison to inboard motors, outboards are easier to maintain, have an excellent power-to-weight ratio, and are portable. Moreover, outboard motors secure bigger cabin space for the boaters with other design advantages.
“With boats continuing to grow bigger and performance expectations continuing to rise, boaters have been asking for a better, more capable high horsepower solution to meet their needs,” said President of Mercury Marine, Chris Drees.
“The V12 Verado outboard is Mercury’s answer. The V12 Verado outboard delivers boaters unrivaled freedom, luxury, and power to pursue their passions on the water. This is a great engine that will change the future of boating.”
Mercury Marine’s robust offering has many ground-breaking innovations that the boating industry has never seen before. The V12 Verado engine is a naturally aspirated unit of a large 7.6-liter displacement and quad-cam powerhead. As a result, it produces very high torque, easily powering even heavier boats. The V12 Verado also features a futuristic steering system that keeps most of the engine in a static position. Meanwhile, the twin-propeller gearcase dipped in the water changes the shift direction.
Moreover, the engine has hydrodynamic design dual contra-rotating propellers, which help at slow-speed maneuvering, easy docking, and excellent fuel economy. Besides, Mercury Marine enabled “multi-engine configurations,” meaning owners can attach several V12 Verado units on one boat. Ultimately, boatbuilders will have more flexibility in increasing the power up to thousands of hp in new boats.
Mercury Marine has invested more than $1.5 billion in research and development and enhanced manufacturing capabilities. The world’s first V12 outboard engine, Verado, is a direct result of this continued effort and innovation since 2008.
