Official: Toyota Was the Most Googled Car Brand in 2020

Toyota beats BMW to become the most Googled car brand of 2020.

The world’s largest automaker has caused quite a stir on the web this year. According to data published by Compare the Market, Toyota surpassed German automaker BMW to become the most Googled car brand for 2020, boasting a whopping search volume of 88.02 million.

Interestingly enough, the detailed analysis continues, highlighting Toyota’s dominance as the top searched brand in almost a third of all countries worldwide. Compare the Market gathered the data over three years starting from 2018, carefully analyzing search results in over 158 countries. According to the map, the Japanese brand was the most searched, bagging in a 34.8% share in car brand search volume for 2020, quite a significant leap compared to its 17.7% share in 2019.

Apart from having one of the highest numbers of consumers globally, the staggering surge in Google search volumes comes after Toyota’s new model launches. The company recently released models like the Corolla Cross, GR Yaris, and the highly anticipated GR Supra. Toyota’s historic performance at Le Mans has also significantly contributed to the brand’s overall search volumes. Recently, Toyota again made headlines this year after unveiling its brand new Le Mans hypercar competitor, the GR010.

And as far as other automakers are concerned, BMW comes in second this year, followed by its rival Mercedes-Benz. Interestingly enough, Korean automaker Kia was the most Googled car brand in India and ranked third worldwide.

Coming in 5th position, the American giant Ford dominated search volumes in its home country. The Blue Oval had released a host of new models with updated features, accounting for a rise in vehicle sales back in 2020.

Apart from that, Swedish automaker Volvo was the most searched brand in five countries ranking in 6th place, followed by Audi, Honda, Nissan, and Renault.
