We all know that the 1.5-liter TSI is an impressive and extensively used engine by the VW Group. The turbocharged mill can be found in various vehicles, including hatchbacks like the new VW Golf 8 series and SUVs like the Skoda Karoq.
In stock form, the 1.5-liter TSI puts out around 148 HP and 184 lb-ft of torque, pretty decent figures considering its small size. However, some customers aren’t exactly satisfied with these figures and need a performance upgrade. Unfortunately, the costs of such upgrades usually prove to be quite expensive.
Luckily, ABT, a famous German tuner well-known for its top-class VW and Audi aftermarket performance parts, just announced the perfect pocket-friendly upgrade. The new ABT Engine Control (AEC) will not only increases the performance of your TSI engine but also provides much better fuel efficiency.
With the help of this improved Engine Control Unit (ECU), TSI owners can increase their engine’s performance figures up to 187 HP and 214 lb-ft of torque. That being said, the AEC’s most exciting feature is its price, being somewhat affordable at only €999. Although, keep in mind that this is just the introductory price. Getting your hands on one after the first half of 2021 will set you back €1,249.
And even better, no need to worry about the installation. The AEC is a plug-and-play upgrade and can be installed very quickly, without any professional help.
Without a doubt, it will be interesting to see how this new upgrade will work out in already popular models like the new Golf 8 series. In addition to the AEC, ABT also offers many other upgrades even more interesting, albeit slightly more expensive.
