2022 Alpina XD3 And XD4 Arrive with Fresh Looks and More Torque

The 2022 Alpina XD3 and XD4 received a host of upgrades, including extra torque and revised front and rear ends.

The Bavarian tuner known for developing high-performance versions of BMW cars has released its own take on the X3 and X4, of course with revised power curves and some unique functional and aesthetic touches.

At the front, the Alpina XD3 and XD4 retain the familiar fascia with the conjoined kidney grille and thin LED headlights, but the front bumper is more aggressive than the stock model. The rear also houses a revised bumper, 3D LED taillights and a redesigned diffuser with two exhaust pipes on each side.

The 3.0-liter inline-six quad-turbo diesel unit produces 389 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, 22 lb-ft more than the previous generation XD models. The engine is coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission sending the power to both axles. The Alpina XD3 can reach a top speed of 166 mph while the XD4 can go up to 167 mph, and both can sprint to 62 mph from a standstill in just 4.6 seconds.

Worth mentioning, Alpina also offers the XD3 and XD4 with a 48 V mild-hybrid system, but unfortunately only in the Australian market. This variant features a twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six developing 350 HP and 538 lb-ft of torque. Per Alpina, the mild hybrid booster offers an 8-kW boost during intense acceleration whilst reducing strain on the diesel engine at flying speeds. Alpina promises a 0-62 mph time of 4.9 seconds with a top speed capped at 158 mph.

Alpina improved braking power with better pads and drilled composite discs measuring 15.6″ (FR) and 15.7″ (RR). The crossovers stand now stands on either 20 or 22-inch light-alloy, multi-spoke wheels wrapped in Pirelli high-performance tires.

Both the Alpina XD3 and XD4 retain BMW’s tech features, so the crossover duo comes with BMW Parking Assistant and electric folding mirrors. Other details include a standard panoramic sunroof and optional leather seats with contrasting Alpina green and blue stitching.

Pricing has not been revealed for all markets yet, but reports suggest that German customers will have to shell out a hefty $104,015 for the XD3 and $107,890 for the XD4. Deliveries are expected to start by November.
