Kawasaki just launched one of the most capable UTV’s on the market, the Teryx KRX 1000.
UTVs, also known as Side-by-Sides, are becoming the next big thing in the off-road world. Their unique construction makes them safer than ATVs, without a drop in the adrenaline rush.
Kawasaki’s newest introduction to the segment, the 2021 Teryx KRX 1000, comes prepared to offer a hell of a ride. The Japanese UTV has a liquid-cooled 8-valve parallel twin 4-stroke 999cc engine, borrowed from the motorcycle division.
The engine delivers 76.7 lb-ft of torque at 7000 RPM, enough for a swift ride through the forest. However, you won’t be changing gears in this UTV. Kawasaki opted for a CVT gearbox with High, Low, and Reverse mode.
The transmission also employs a crawler ratio for climbing rocks. For better acceleration off the line, Kawasaki also utilized a centrifugal clutch. This part also reduces belt shocks for smoother performance.
Moreover, the centrifugal clutch allows precise throttle control when facing challenging terrain, like climbing rocks rocky or driving in mud.
The driver can choose between different power modes via a switch on the dashboard. The Full Power mode delivers quick throttle response for driving on dirt and gravel. Conversely, the Low Power mode dulls the response for driving over steep terrain.
Best-In-Class Wheel Articulation
Meanwhile, the 13.6’’ of ground clearance helps the driver master rough terrain more easily. Besides, Kawasaki also employed an advanced suspension system to cope with uneven surfaces.
The FOX 2.5 PODIUM LSC shocks combined with independent suspension arms should provide superior wheel articulation. That’s important for keeping the wheels on the ground at all times.
According to Kawasaki, the front double wishbone suspension allows for 19-inches of wheel travel. Meanwhile, the rear 4-link trailing-arm suspension allows for 21-inches of travel. Both numbers are class-leading.
The front and rear suspension utilize piggyback reservoirs that hold suspension oil for better cooling capacity. Moreover, the driver can choose between 24-position adjustable damping and a fully adjustable preload.
Capable Wheels, Tires, and Brakes
The Teryx KRX 1000 sits on MAXXIS Carnivore large diameter tires and bead-locks wheels. The large diameter helps the driver to overcome significant obstacles with ease. Simultaneously, the Carnivore tires offer outstanding high-speed stability on rocky terrain. Furthermore, the robust 8-ply construction decreases the risk of puncture, essential for such a vehicle.
As the Teryx KRX 1000 is designed with off-road in mind, the chassis plays a crucial role. The engineers at Kawasaki spent dedicated work hours formulating the ROPS incorporated rigid framework. The focus? To increase the rigidity of the chassis, without adding weight.
Moreover, the Japanese manufacturer also concentrated on delivering good weight distribution. The Teryx KRX 1000 has a ratio of 46:54 (front to back), pretty good for a UTV.
Being a powerful UTV, the Teryx KRX 1000 also has an advanced braking system. On the front wheels, Kawasaki utilized dual hydraulic discs with 2-piston calipers. On the rear, there is a single-piston caliper at each disc.
Furthermore, the electric power steering system works with the ECU to adjust its responsiveness in real-time.
Two Options Available
Kawasaki offers the Teryx KRX 1000 in two vibrant color selections – Blue/Metallic Onyx Black and Lime Green/Metallic Onyx black.
Besides, there are two variants of the UTV. The Trail Edition and the Special edition come with their unique exteriors and other improvements.
The Trial edition exclusives include sport bumpers, NERF bars, KQR sport roof, and VRX 45 Powersport Winch.
The Special edition exclusives include Bluetooth audio system, LED display, Woofers and door speakers, and VRX 45 Powersport Winch.
Modern and Comfortable Interior
Inside, the Teryx KRX 1000 receives a multi-function digital meter. The screen has two display options and includes a lot of crucial driving info.
Of course, there is the digital speedometer and fuel gauge. However, the driver can also monitor the driving mode, water temperature, battery, oil, CVT belt warning lamp, etc.
Kawasaki also made sure that the passengers are comfortable inside. The spacious seats are optimized for comfort, and the passengers can adjust them fully.
Overall, Kawasaki arguably produced a mean machine that’s completely locked and loaded.
