The beloved half-doors are back on the Wrangler, and the best thing is you’re also getting a set of spare full doors, free of charge!
Two model years back, the Wrangler had half-doors, a signature and definitely eye-catching feature of this popular off-roader. Full-doors and framed roll-up windows were made optional in the 1990s and 2000s generation JK, while the half-doors were actually offered as standard. In the meantime, Jeep decided to omit this feature and it has been that way for more than two decades. Now, the famous half-doors are back in the Jeep configurator, giving buyers an option to choose the soft top and half-doors.
The metal half-doors come halfway up with a soft top and windows that unzip and can be removed. Two trims will be available for the half-door option: the dual-door premium uppers and the dual-door base uppers. Premium uppers will come with luxury twill-style fabric that matches the rest of the soft-touch roof materials that come with the premium Jeep models. The base uppers contain a removable top made from plastic-like vinyl that matches the materials that come with the base models.
Half-doors come with some disadvantages like if the passenger wants some fresh air, the whole window needs to be unzipped. The weather also causes an effect on the window surface, like snow, which will cause the soft window to be damaged, while windy weather will make it louder, with wind easily seeping through. Although half-doors will be available for the Wrangler, the Gladiator truck does not receive this option.
The cost for fitting the half-doors vary depending on if the Wrangler is a two-door or a four-door model. Starting with the two-door Wrangler, the base uppers half-doors cost $2,350, and the premium uppers half-doors cost $2,550. For the bigger four-door models, the base uppers half-doors will cost $3,995, while the premium uppers half-doors cost $4,395. Since these doors are part of Jeep’s Dual Door Group pack, a buyer who chooses to go for half-doors will also get full-doors, with fully framed windows just like a regular Wrangler.
