Volta revealed the world’s first, purpose-built, full-electric 16-tonne commercial vehicle, the Volta Zero, designed for freight distribution. It will be launched later in 2020 and start trials with logistics operators in the first half of 2021 before going into production in 2022.
With the commercial electric vehicle industry booming, Sweden’s Volta paves the way with its Zero. The future of transportation is changing, and we are witnessing a proper revolutionary transition.
Volta’s Zero is a 16-tonne commercial vehicle, and as mentioned by its founder, Mr. Carl-Magnus Norden, the primary focus was on safety protocols, explaining the Zero’s 220 degrees of visibility. Its panoramic view is so innovative that it earned it a wholesome 5-star rating from the Transport of London’s Direct Vision Standard.
Nonetheless, the road to the final launch is long and arduous. The company plans to start trials in tandem with some of Europe’s best parcel delivery and logistics companies by 2021 and hopefully start production by 2022. Orders have already been placed by various logistics companies showing their dedication to a sustainable future.
Even better, the Zero’s external body panels are made of biodegradable resin and flax. Talk about being carbon neutral, right? This technology has been carefully developed by Bcomp and in association with the European Space Agency. Eco-friendly to the very core.
Volta’s innovative e-Axle technology May very well give the company a big headstart when compared to other manufacturers using conventional electrical motors. Why? Not only will it boost efficiency but also extend the vehicle range. To power the e-Axle, Volta will use 160 – 200 kWh highly modular lithium iron phosphate battery packs, allowing the manufacturer to offer a wide variety of different setups to fit various client needs.
The company’s “environment first” philosophy is something it is willing to take very seriously. Mr. Fowler, Volta’s CEO, promised to reduce 180,000 tons of carbon dioxide by 2025. Even better, Volta’s ultimate goal is to become the most sustainable commercial vehicle manufacturer in the whole world. And, let’s just say, it’s doing quite well up to now.
Mr. Norden has also highlighted the importance of electrification. He considers that renewable energy is the only way to protect posterity from various sorts of health hazards caused by internal combustion engine vehicles. It suggests a clear indication that the company directs the responsibility of saving the planet on both manufacturers and customers.
By the year 2022, Volta is willing to offer 500 different vehicle variants to provide a wide range of options to choose from. It’s a long-term goal? Are you ready for it, though? Producing as much as 5000 vehicles a year by 2025. That’s an ambitious goal for what is still a somewhat small startup. However, Elon Musk also had big dreams, and look at how it turned out for them!
So, why shouldn’t they dream big too? With the Covid19 pandemic still underway, diesel prices are soaring. The demand for electric vehicles is on the rise. If not now, then when?
It is now or never!
