VinFast, Vietnam’s first Automaker to Launch EVs in North America

VinFast’s new EVs seem ready to take the North-American market by storm!

VinFast announced three new battery-electric vehicles with fully autonomous capabilities — labeled VF31, VF32, and the VF33. Out of which, two of them would be on their way to the US and Canada.

The biggest and most impressive among them is by far the VF33, an E-segment SUV. It’s powered by dual motors generating a combined power output of 402 HP. And thanks to the 106 kWh battery pack, the carmaker claims an impressive range of 342 miles.

Secondly, the VF32 can be categorized as a D-segment mid-size SUV, quite similar to the Tesla Model Y, and will be launched in two variants. The base model will be powered by a single motor producing 201 HP and 236 lb-ft of torque, while the higher-end variant will be equipped with a similar setup as the VF33.

The smallest model, a compact C-segment called VF31, will also be offered in two different variants. The base variant will produce 114 HP and 140 lb-ft of torque, while the premium variant will have a similar powertrain as the base VF32, providing 186 miles of battery range.

VinFast VF32

It should be noted that only the VF32 and the VF33 are headed to the North American market, both meeting the highest security standards, obtaining 5 stars in both NHTSA and Euro NCAP tests.

All models are set to feature a 15.4-inch infotainment system as standard. At the same time, the higher-end variant will also benefit from hi-tech sensors including LiDAR, 14 long-range cameras, and 19 360-degree vision sensors, providing Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities.

According to the VinFast, the VF31 will be launched by the end of the year, but only in the Vietnamese market. On the other hand, the VF32 and the VF33 will be available internationally and even in North-America. The manufacturer will open reservations books starting November 2021, and deliveries will begin in June 2022.

VinFast VF31

We will have to watch out to see how VinFast will fare in the highly competitive North-American market, especially the electric SUV segment, currently dominated by the likes Tesla, Nissan, and General Motors.

In all cases, it won’t be an easy fight!
