Valtteri Bottas Takes Delivery of His Blue Mercedes-AMG One

Mercedes-AMG One Was Well “Worth the Wait,” According to Valtteri Bottas

An F1-powered hypercar with 1,049 hp and an 11,000 rpm redline does sound like it’s worth the six years of waiting time.

While a road-legal F1-powered hypercar may sound like a handful for many, it sure sounds like a perfect toy for Valtteri Bottas, who’s been a Formula 1 pilot for over 10 years. Indeed, the 33 years old Finnish racing driver just took delivery of his latest Mercedes-AMG One, equipped with hybrid tech source directly from the Mercedes-AMG F1 W06 Formula 1 racing car — Bottas says it was “worth the wait.”

The ex-Mercedes F1 driver is currently working for the Sauber team, and he has quite a few impressive limited-edition cars in his collection himself. Apart from exotics like the legendary Ferrari F40 and McLaren 675LT, Bottas also got his hands on the new 540 hp Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA, limited to only 500 units worldwide, and drives a Stelvio Quadrifoglio as a daily driver. And resulting from his past partnership with Mercedes, he was given a W204 C63 AMG and AMG GT Black Series as a farewell gift — of course, it’s the AMG GT Black Series “One Series” edition we’re talking about, exclusive to AMG One customers only.

Now, the latest addition to his collection, the AMG One, uses an engine from Mercedes F1’s 2015 race car. It’s a 1.6-liter V6 with an electric-assisted single turbocharger producing 566 hp. Don’t let the rather small displacement fool you, though, as it’s packed with double overhead camshafts, air spring valves, and sophisticated exhaust gas cleaning. As a result, it can stand a stratospheric max rpm of 11,000.

But the party piece comes from the three electric motors paired to the V6, powered by a tiny 8.4 kWh battery producing dual 322 hp on the front axle and 121 hp for the advanced single turbocharger. So combined, the $2.75 million hypercar churns out a whopping 1,049 hp, and can do 0-125 mph in only 7 seconds.

We don’t have any information about Bottas’ specific AMG One spec, but judging from the pictures uploaded on his Instagram account, it is finished with a brilliant dark blue color without the graphic pack — stunning, indeed. Mind you, this is one of the first AMG Ones to have been delivered; only 275 will be made, and one of them sadly caught fire when it was transported in a trailer last May.

Nonetheless, the AMG One is truly a masterpiece from Affalterbach. Hopefully, we can see more customers getting their hands on one and unleashing this beauty on the road so we, the unfortunate, can at least feast our eyes with some paparazzi shots.
