Triumph produces a special Steve McQueen Scrambler 1200 to commemorate the actor’s famous ride of the Triumph TR6 in the movie “The Great Escape.”
Ever since Steve McQueen rode the Triumph TR6 in an iconic movie scene, the whole motor world was aware of the bond between the two. McQueen was quite affectionate towards the motor brand, and Triumph is celebrating a by releasing the limited-edition Steve McQueen Scrambler 1200.
The actual story dates back to the 60s when the legendary actor did a jump on his Triumph TR6 in the movie “The Great Escape.” The film was set against a World War 2 backdrop, wherein McQueen tries to escape a Nazi POW camp on his TR6. We might not remember every detail from the scene, but we surely remember the way he rode his Triumph, which is not surprising—after all, he was the ‘King of Cool.’
Triumph is now paying tribute to the actor by releasing the limited Steve McQueen Edition. For this purpose, Triumph chose the Scrambler 1200 XE as the base. The special edition will feature a unique painting scheme to remind you of the retro model used in the scene. While the original TR6 used was painted in military green, the tank of the McQueen Edition is finished in competition green, giving the bike the look it deserves. The tank will also feature hand-painted gold pinstriping and a little 60-styled Steve McQueen decal on it.
The limited-edition will also come with color-matched front and rear fenders, brushed knee pads, and a brown leather saddle.
The Scrambler McQueen is only limited to 1000 units? To make it a limited special edition, Triumph will mark a serial number on each unit’s handlebar. Moreover, there will be a laser-engraved Steve McQueen’s signature next to it. Each unit will also come with a certification of authenticity specially signed by the CEO of the company.
While the standard Scrambler 1200 is priced at around $15,000, the Steve McQueen Edition will cost you $16,400. Not much of a difference for such a unique bike, right?
